Mauritania: Australian Miner Announces Copper-Gold Acquisition in Guidimake Region

by | Jul 25, 2026 | Economic, Mauritania

Summary:

On 22 July 2026, Sydney stock exchange-listed Zeus Resources announced the acquisition of up to 100% of Sab Metals Mauritania SARL, securing the Diaguili copper-gold project in southern Mauritania’s Guidimaka region.

The drill-ready asset is located within the “Mauritanides geological belt” and will be developed through a staged $2 million consideration and an A$2 million capital raise to fund exploration activities.

The company plans to conduct additional geological studies and drilling to confirm historical copper findings and assess the project’s resource potential. The acquisition comes amid strong global demand for copper and increasing interest in critical mineral opportunities in underexplored markets.

Outlook:

The acquisition reflects the growing attention toward Mauritania’s mineral potential as global demand for copper and other strategic resources increases.

While the Diaguili project remains at an early exploration stage, the entry of foreign explorers into underdeveloped mining areas suggests growing confidence in Mauritania’s geological prospects and its potential to attract investment beyond established iron ore operations.
